Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Deccan Chargers


Kolkatta riders handed out a surprising defeat to the last time winners IPL Deccan Charges in the inauguration match on Friday. The Deccan Charger started off well both in the batting and bowling but finished badly in the finish. The Kolkatta Riders started very badly but kept their cool to win the match. The toss was won by Deccan chargers and Adam Gilchrist decided to field as they felt that chasing a total of 150 to 160 will be easily achievable. Deccan chargers started the match very well by claiming early wickets. The Kolkatta riders having lost 4 wickets were struggling to maintain the run rate. Gilchrist applied pressure on the batsmen by rotating his bowlers and Symond and Ojha were containing the batsmen. In turn, Mathews and shah were showing better temperament and were slowly and steadily consolidating the innings by maintaining a run rate of 6 runs per over up to the tenth over. Both the players scored half centuries and the partnership was building up. In the last 10 overs the Kolkatta riders batsmen cut loose and boosted the run rate. They scored 104 runs in the last ten overs and finished the innings at 162 setting a target of 163 to win. The partnership between Mathews and shah, the aggressive batting of Mathews and the composed innings of shah were the tuning points in favour of Kolkatta riders. Even with out their star batsmen like MacCallum and Chris Gayle, they performed well to get a descent score of 162.Chamandya vaas was the pick of the bowler for Deccan Chargers claiming 2 wickets for 22 runs.

Deccan Chargers made a very good start, with Gilchrist and V.V.S. Lakshman as opening batsmen. They scored 56 runs in the first 5 overs with a run rate of more than 10 per over. Gilchrist as always aggressive and made 54 runs. At one stage it seemed like DC would pose an easy win but things started changing after departed the field. Wickets were tumbling at regular interval and in the last 5 overs; they had to score 40 runs. KKR’s main bowlers Langeveldt and Ishant Sharma kept their nerve and conceded only few runs in the last few overs. Ultimately, Deccan Chargers were lagging 13 rubs behind the target and lost the game to Kolkatta Knight Riders. Angelo Mathews was awarded Man of the Match for his excellent performance with the bat and ball. Dada’s Kolkatta Knight Riders are back with force and looking forward to more victories in the tournament
