Andrew Flintoff’s IPL dilemma

Andrew Flintoff created history in second IPL auction along with his teammate Kevin Pietersen, as a highest contracted players replacing Mahendra Singh Dhoni for being paid at an Whopping 1.5 Million $ in second IPL auction for Chennai Super Kings. Ever since his affairs with IPL have gained huge interest both from media, as well as cricket experts.

Complaints flooded already that, England team had lot of IPL distractions which accounted for one of their worst defeat in this decade against first test in West Indies. English players were quick to deny those allegations, floating in media, but did accept to the fact that they were surprised to see the money in this period of recession.

Things sounded to flow smoothly until Flintoff got injured his hip muscle, during third test against West Indies. He already missed the fourth test against West Indies owing to injury and flown back to treat further. Scans report suggested grade 2 injury on his hip muscle.

Ashes pressure:

With ashes trophy looming soon after IPl, ECB chief knowing the importance of having Flintoff in English side, issued a statement that if circumstances demand then they can deny Flintoff form playing IPL, as there are clauses to prevent a player from playing in IPL owing to injury concerns. Modi IPL chief issued a reprisal to ECB chief soon after that stating that they cannot bar Flintoff from IPL participation which became a hot debate.

Australian Players effect:

The announcement of Ricky Pointing, Michael Clarke and other Australian players, that they are not going to take part in IPL in best interest of their country, has indeed mounted huge pressure on Flintoff to skip IPl, to give preference and much needed rest to Ashes. Flintoff was quick to reinstate the fact that it was decision by Australian players, and he will participate in IPL without any doubt if he is supposed to be fit.

International Interest:

Recently Shane warne issued a statement stating that Flintoff should give preference to Ashes than IPl as he is English team driving force and teams chances rested with him. It is amazing how million dollar players incur huge interest and hype in media, because IPL is played after a month ago.

Flintoff when he came to tour India felt that Indian team has developed huge skills and talent because of IPL and this year they won’t miss their chances to play in IPL to hone their skills to perform well for their country. Flintoff had been in English team for more than 9 years, and even a small child could tell how much he is passionate about playing for his country, so it’s foolish to doubt on his integrity. and leave him the decision to take on IPL.
