IPL (Indian Premier League) has been the cynosure right from politicians to Cricket experts. No doubt, when Mumbai attacks took place, prospect of IPL looked dim and gloomy, but after English players brave return for playing test match in Chennai and IPL auction things all are falling in place.
Many country players especially Pakistan players raised eye brows pointing out the double standard adopted by International players towards two neighbouring countries India and Pakistan, but today’s terror attack on Srilankan Team bus in Lahore has asserted the fact that it is foolish to compare the condition in India with Pakistan.
Lalith Modi, IPL chairman deserves much credit, as he availed the opportunity to utilize the security arrangements made in test matches in Chennai and Nagpur after math of Mumbai attacks, to evolve a standard blue print for security arrangements. As one can know the kind of security offered to England players during their test tour were astonishing and fool proof.
When IPL director Malhotra was queried whether Terrorist attack on Srilankan team bus would have severe effect on IPL 2009. He answered negatively and said they have already made all arrangements possible. It seems that security which was pursued in recent test matches where England took on India would be used as a template to secure the places from Airport to Team hotels.
IPl director Lalith Mod in a recent interview briefed about the security arrangements of IPL. He stated the fact, that IPL security team, has left no stones unturned where they actually brainstormed different modus operandi, the terrorist can use and thereby reinforced security arrangements. Disaster Management systems are in place in both Team Hotels as well as ground.
It was stated that, if there is any calamities like that disaster, management systems are devised in such a way that ground can be evacuated within 7 minutes. Even he told that security was well prepared to withstand even a replica of terrorist attack like Mumbai.
In fact all the countries will employ their security consultants, before sending their respective players to IPl which is quite understandable after Mumbai attacks and today’s attack on Srilankan cricket team bus. IPL is very well prepared, through their proactive heads that its security can pass any acid test by security consultants.
Tight security here means players cant party hard at night or can’t move out to and fro as they wish. So cricket will get more focussed and intensive, IPL 2009 is not big just in glitz and glamour, but security arrangements and preparations is also one of the biggest changes implemented by IPL board this season.
