Bangalore romped home. to a much needed victory against Chennai Super Kings and increased their stakes for semi – final berth. Chennai Super Kings batsmen did not provide enough score, for their bowlers leaving them, to defend paltry total of one hundred and twenty nine, but they managed, to put a brave battle, at the end.
Chennai won the toss and there were no major surprises, that they induced their opposition, to bowl, a strategy which has scripted their recent victories and sent butcher Matthew Hayden, to take good care of Bangalore Challengers bowlers.
Apart from Kumble’s initial opening over, Hayden went berserk to the rest of his bowlers and he was in such a dominant stature in middle, where he used his feet with will to the Royal Challengers bowlers especially, to Vinay and Praveen.
At one stage Chennai were marching along to a huge total, thanks, to Matthew Hayden sixty from thirty eight balls and they crossed hundred in 13th over, but once Australian departed from the crease, the rest of batsmen made the mockery of a total, by just managing mere one twenty nine runs.
Jacques kallis and Anil Kumble bowled exceptionally well for Bangalore to stage a highly unanticipated middle over collapse, by picking two crucial wickets and also in the process managing to see the back of all their batsmen within twenty overs.
Robin Uthappa opened along with Jacques Kallis, but for heart – break of Vijay Mallya, he lost his both premium batsmen Uthappa and Kallis to Albie Morkel, which pegged back their chase.
Chase further looked feeble, with loss of Rahul Dravid in the bowling of Tyagi, but Ross Taylor the man of the match for them in previous game combined well with Virat Kohli to add some impetus to their chase, by building a fine partnership.
But Chennai Super Kings managed to cuff their chase, by removing Virat Kolhi and also claimed successive wickets to put them firm on their track, but Ross Taylor proved to be once again the crisis man for Royal Challengers, as he hit some few lusty hits in the end overs to keep their team in touching distance of chase.
Bangalore needed five runs of the last over, with Taylor in the crease, but to add further drama to match, Taylor got out, in first ball of the last over of Jacob Oram, but Vinay Kumar and Praveen Kumar proved, that they are no mug with bat and they finished the game clinically, to strangle assured Chennai Super Kings ipl final opportunity.
