Broadcasting loggerheads harvest further confusion in IPL

It was not long ago, IPL authorities terminated their deal with Multi Screen Media Ltd ,which owns IPL broadcasting rights In Umbrella Sony Entertainment Ltd, by entering into a contract with World Sports Group (WSG), Mauritius.

But Multi Screen Ltd brought the case to notice of Bombay High court stating that IPL’s new contract has to be stayed, because they already have a contract with IPL and they even accrued a stay order from court.

Recently IPL authorities and delegates from Multi Screen Ltd called on each other to solve this issue amicably, without help of court procedures. But no mutual consent has been reached among the parties, even though there were rumours, that Multi Screen Ltd group gave some undisclosed amount to IPL authorities to retain back the contract.

Laith Modi discharged above statements as pure rumours and he stated that IPL authorities did not reach a mutual consent stating, that broadcaster solicited for non – terminable contracts, which is not possible.

He also substantiated reason, for terminating their contracts with Sony because of their poor coverage of IPL; even after repeated warning they were busy in broadcasting advertisements between balls, without even showing proper replays.

Another party worst afflicted out of this ugly brawl between IPL authorities and Multi Screen Ltd groups are media planners, who were eagerly waiting for IPL moment to reap rich benefits.

But after the present altercations, one cannot be surprised if broadcasting rights are looted from Sony Entertainment and handed over to World Sports Group (WSG). So media planners, who have already bought enough space from Sony Entertainment network group are facing an ordeal time, offering prayers to their dear gods.

Already relations between IPL authorities and Multi Screen Media Ltd have gone awry after the Sony entertainment legally cancelled IPL authorities 31.6 million $ deal with Big TV, a direct home telecaster.

Media planners who have to choose between the Lok sabha elections and IPL as an outlet to stream their plans are experiencing further misery because of this uncertainty over broadcasting of IPL.

Insiders reveal that relation between broadcaster and IPl authorities never remained like before and it all problems commenced, ever since the resignation of Kunal Dasgupta ,as a CEO of Sony Entertainment, who was said to be close ally of Laith Modi.

IPL authorities also sounded confident, that their deal with WSG remains in force and will emerge as a victors from this imbroglio, which seems would be decided finally in hands of law.
