Security concerns have become a key word for every present International cricket player in world; it has further been aggravated because of Karachi’s terrorist attack on Srilanakan Cricket team.
It was a exactly about a month before England Cricket star Kevin Pietersen hit the headlines for being a highest priced player in IPL history along with his teammates Andrew Flintoff. Now he is again back to headlines, because of voicing security concerns in sub- continent and his participation in IPL.
He was quoted saying that he has doubts right now in participation of IPL, as security of International Cricket players are in high threat because of terrorist intentions. In the same day ICC (International Cricket Committee) expressed opinion that can’t give 100 percent security assurances for players not just in Pakistan, but also in any part of world. It sounds quite a pragmatic statement from ICC president, who is is one under high pressure and under the scanner of media.
Pietersen did hope that things get back to normal and IPL would go ahead with cricket do all the talking rather than terrorist or security. He also said that he would talk to his agents, Bangalore Franchise, security experts which can enlighten him about the security concerns and then come to a clear decision.
Not long back, sub – continent cricket board thought that terrorist would not attack cricket players as sport enjoys lot of support from common public. Now this theory sound to be shattered, which has further daunted all cricket boards especially sub – continent cricket boards.
Pietersen is also vary of the fact that how much it will be a loss to International cricket and Players if the world’s richest tournament is cancelled or International Cricket Players did not participate in IPL.
Pietersen also voiced his opinion that it’s very Unlikely that England proposed tour of Pakistan will go ahead, given current situation, and he also expressed his concerns for Pakistan cricket players, cricket fans who would be missing cricket because of the security concerns and terrorist threat.
Another thing of concern is that Kevin Pietersen is contacted under ECB, who even though gave no objection certificate for their participation in IPL seems will allow players only if it convinced of security for IPL.
Pietersen has made one thing clear, that even though he could garner name of highest priced player in IPL, he would not risk his life or security for money. It is generally voice and opinion of the most International Cricket players barring few.
