Ness Wadia hogged the lime light, not just because of his celebrity girl friend Priety Zinta, but also because of his shrewd and marketing tactics, which he unleashed in last year Via IPL. The proud co - owner of one of the IPL 2 franchise Punjab kings XI, along with Priety Zinta, has sprung into action this year, to galvanise his side again.
Punjab kings XI, was dealt with a great blow, when their one of the contracted international fast bowler, was ruled out of participating, in IPL owing to injury along with their premier Indian fast bowler Sreesanth. But Ness Wadia went onto make a prudent strategic move of signing South African fast bowler Yusuf Abdullah.
He said that their bowling department is a big issue and South African players would be pivotal to garner local support, which they can leverage using Abdullah and also he is based on Durban, where they play five matches, so they could be benefited by his experience and knowledge about the local condition. Yusuf Abdullah has played 26 twenty 20 matches and has an astounding strike rate of 5. 73.
Yusuf Abdullah made an impressive debut for South Africa against Australia last week and would be a valuable addition to their arsenal, which has Brett lee returning, after being out of action due to foot and ankle related injuries. Punjab Kings XI owner also agreed that, shifting of IPL to South Africa has its own hidden cost as well as hidden profits and they haven’t yet finalised on gate sharing revenue and other details completely with IPL authorities. He also expressed, that total expenses this time would be lesser or greater to ten percent, because of African shift.
Wadia also stated, that they would send 28 of their players for a week camp, which would be held in Port Elizabeth and decide on final number later according to situation and team requirement. He was quoted saying that, being a small town, Port Elizabeth can help them to focus pretty much on cricket.
He also added ,that they have also signed Dave Nosworthy head coach of Lions to assist head coach Tom Moody. Dave Nosworthy is also a South African, who could shower his local knowledge and experience.
Punjab Kings XI which opens IPL by taking on Delhi Daredevils could hope that all their strategic moves of management pay them rich dividends, which we have to wait and see till action begins
