It was exactly a year back; Bangalore Royal Challengers (BRC) was mocked as a test team in a T 20 jersey. The results of their first season justified the comments made at the team. Story is lot more different this year, with team owner Vijay Mallya calling the shots.
Right from coach Ray Jennings to its CEO Brijesh Patel, team management sports an entirely new look.’ Change’ is key word, one can associate with them. Recently in an interview, Vijay Mallya, announced that captaincy options are open, it’s not going to be similar script like last year, where Rahul Dravid is going to croon the captains’ voice.
BRC team has realised importance of local Indian players, as they are going to be majority in ones team composition, barring the four International players. They have gone for plenty of signing Indians players like Robin Uthappa, who was swapped for Zaheer khan from Mumbai Indians; Gaurav Dhiman handy batsmen. Bowlers like Tinu Youhanan, former Indian international player from Kerala was given a surprise contract, due to his impressive performance along with another rookie fast bowle Pankaj Singh.
Squad of royal Challengers which was supposed to be announced in March 9th of this month was still kept furtive, by team owner Vijay Mallya. They have couple of key decisions to make like sorting out captaincy puzzle.
Even a month back, Ray Jennings coach of BRC announced, that Kevin Pietersen is the most possible candidate to take captaincy mantle. But the problem management face is Pietersen would not be available, for whole of tournament, due to International assignments like ashes. Many people from management feel that, even Robin Uthappa can be the most likely candidate to be conferred captaincy role. As he is already donning the captaincy role of Karnataka Ranjy Throphy team, which can end the issue in his favour coupled with his charisma and exuberance as a person.
Vijay Mallya, who is team owner is said to take the final call on this issue. They have an entirely refurbished outlook from rest of franchise in this edition of T20. They might benefit from the fact that lessons are learnt in a hard way during last season.
With international players like Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor, Dale Steyn, Mark Boucher and Kevin Pietersen they indeed have fire power in their arsenal to make it big in this edition of IPLs.
