Players like Murali Karthik, Ishant Sharma (Kolkata Knight Riders KKR) ; Rohit Sharma (Deccan Chargers ) , Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings ), Dinesh Kaarthick ( Delhi Dare Devils ) have one thing in common about them, they represent respective franchise, which is not based on their home city.
In fact many experts and officials raised questions, whether the concept of auction, where some franchise acquiring players, belonging to cities of other franchise would work out. It was literally wiped out ,after the 1st edition got over, as players showed their allegiance to their franchise.
This year also it’s going to be similar script, where IPL is going to goad many domestic players representing different franchises unlike their home. Gaurav Dhiman is going to represent (Bangalore Royal Challengers BRC), so is case of Pankaj Singh, but not his Ranji Trophy team franchise. Tinu Yohanan former Indian International player basically from Kerala would be donning the role of fast bowler in jersey of BRC.
This season has also seen few players swapping among their respective franchise, so that players of their home city could play same city franchise. Robin Uthappa was swapped by BRC for Zaheer Khan by BRC and also Ashish Nehra was swapped by Delhi Dare Devils for Shikar Dhiwan with Mumbai Indians.
There is huge criticism staged on Rajasthan Royal franchise owner sanjay Badale that he is not giving any preference to his state and city based players. When questioned about to him, he wiped out allegations stating that quality is the most pivotal criteria for player selection and only home city cannot be taken as criteria for inducting player into team.
For Samson fourteen and half year old wicket keeper, who would be inducted into scheme of things of Kolkata Kinght Riders it was exciting to play under Sharukh Khan team, even though it is not his home city based franchise.
Jaggi hard hitting twenty year old batsmen, who hails from Jharkhand has been selected by BRC, he also narrates a similar story of allegiance. Even Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is basically from Jharkhand, has been adopted as a local boy in all over Tamil Nadu.
The concept of icon players , where frachise who are not willing to shed their key city based players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Shewag, Yuvraj Singh have been good for cause of home supporters.
Mumbai supporter could not even imagine seeing Sachin playing for another franchise ads one ardent Mumbai fan. So for huge confidence and investmenst franchise owners have poured on those other state players, sure they will do justice to it in tournament with ferocity and aggression.
