IPL‘s overlapping with elections have stirred mixed response between various political parties of our country. Ministry of Home and Affairs (MHA) had strictly all state governments not to give security assurance, unless they can manage the security by themselves. It’s a well known fact that not long before, Union Minister M.K. Chidambaram, addressed the press stating that security would be provided for IPL only if the tournament authorities reconsider the schedule.
Now climate has changed, due to the attitude of election commissioner and home minister favour towards Lok Sabha polls over IPL. Given the Intelligence reports, which suggest, that terrorists would most likely target IPL and elections; it’s quite understandable, why they desire for postponement of IPL. It has pushed the IPL officials in quandary and compounded to their titanic load of problems.
They have found a favour and much needed support in some cases. Like recently senior Bharathiya Janata party, leader Arun Jaitley , expressed his support for conduct of IPL, stating that government is very much obliged to save IPL from being abandoned. But one thing has been made very clear by MHA, that it is not going to show any mercy over IPL officials and they are not going to be conferred with any central Para – military forces, thereby leaving the baton to state police officials in deciding the fate of IPL.
Recently Andhra Police officials have decided, to give consent for IPL to be held in Hyderabad and Vishakapattinam, if the IPL officials can reschedule it barring few days for elections. It is a much needed boost for wounded IPL officials. Punjab chief Minsiter Prakash Singh Badal has expressed full solidarity and support to stage the IPL matches in Mohali without any tanctrums.
State government of Chattisgarh, has expressed their interest in staging IPL recently, which provides much wider resting space for IPL officials to stage matches without disturbing the polls and elctions. Already its confirmed fact that, IPL matches would be held in three new venues like Dharmasala, Vishakapattinam and Cuttack, where other cities are also in reckoning. State officials assured IPL officials that new stadium which is under construction would be ready for IPL. It can substantiate IPL officials with one more option in choosing the wide number of venues available.
IPL authorities always discovers some positives even from those incessant adversaries, which clearly indicate IPL would come stronger and fresher to astound the global audience, as stated by former Indian selector V. A Chandrasekar
